Feeder Guard

About Feeder Guard™

Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) is estimated to cause between 50-90% of all sickness that occurs in feedlots. BRD is said to cause annual productivity problems that cost the industry $60 Million.

It is particularly associated with stress caused by the assembly and mixing of cattle of different origins through sale yards, transportation and feedlot entry. It is considered that pre-conditioning cattle prior to feedlot induction will significantly reduce the economic impact of BRD and therefore be a valuable management tool for feedlots.

To help manage BRD and its economic impact at the feedlot, Elders has developed Feeder Guard™ as a third party audited membership program that is commercially available to cattle producers who supply feedlots.

Feeder Guard™ membership allows suppliers to identify cattle that have been treated according to the prescribed pre induction protocol. In recognition of the effectiveness of the protocol, feedlots can readily identify and pay premiums for those cattle inducted into the feedlot which are supplied under the Feeder Guard™ program.

Feeder Guard Feeder Guard™ is a fully audited protocol, where the grazier is invited to join protocol by the feedlot and off ered an incentive payment to follow protocol.
